"It is of The Lord's mercy that we are not consumed, because his mercies fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. The Lord is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him. It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord."
- Lamentations 3:22-26
To hope means to expect, to await an outcome. It implies the confidence and assurance that what one expects will happen. It is assurance that expectation will be filled.
Without hope, men and women would succumb to all the evil and tragedies of the world. Just as John (the Baptizer) was the forerunner to Jesus, so hope must precede faith. Everyone who seeks to please God must have faith. For the Bible states without faith, it is impossible to please God. The Apostle Paul wrote in Romans 8:24, "We are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?"
Anything can erupt tomorrow or the next day that can change the whole course of one's lifestyle. The only absolute is God. Build your hope on things eternal, hold to God's unchanging hand.
